Coming off of a long winter, spring sports are picking up at Metuchen High School once again. It has been a successful year for athletics at MHS so far, and our student-athlete community is still on the rise. Multiple fall and winter teams finished their season as division champions, and players earned various individual recognition and awards. Many of these athletes, along with others, are transferring into their spring sport this April. The Metuchen High School Track & Field team, the Softball team, the Baseball team, the Boys Tennis team, and the Boys and Girl Golf teams have, at this point, officially opened their 2025 seasons.
Boys and Girls Winter Track & Field set a positive tone for a successful spring in the 2024-2025 season. The Boys and Girls Winter runners both secured the Central Group 1 Sectional Championship title as well as securing two school records. Senior, Eric Schleif, left his competitors in the dust, as he broke the school record for the 1600-meter race with a time of 4:18.43, beating the previous record by about 2 seconds. Sophomore, Makenna Bruns set a new school record for the Indoor 200 meter race with a time of 26.13 seconds. It didn't stop there, Makenna Bruns went on to break her own record in the finals with a time of 26.12 seconds. These two teams will carry the winning momentum into the first outdoor meets and hopefully make strides in the GMC.
The Metuchen High School Baseball team opened their season this past week, on March 31st, at John F. Kennedy High School; as did the Softball team the next day, on April 1st, at Old Bridge High School.
In an outstanding victory, the Boys Tennis team crushed the competition at their season opener against Sayreville High School on April 1st with an all-around win. Hopefully, the team will continue their streak for a winning season as they did in 2024.
Both the Boys and Girls Golf teams have opened their 2025 season as of March 31st. The Boys team had an unbelievable season in 2024, finishing as the GMC Champions for the fourth time in a row, and Group 1 Central/South Champions for the fifth time in a row. Although they have big shoes to fill, the team will have no trouble rising to expectations again this year. The Girls Golf team opened their season on March 27th and secured their first victory against New Brunswick on April 1st. Coach Dybas and her team are a dedicated group that will, without a doubt, bring in many victories for the Bulldogs this year.
The 2025 spring seasons are looking very bright for Metuchen High School. Between the talented athletes and passionate coaches, there are countless victories ahead. Go Dawgs!
