All throughout the country right now, a new trend is taking over by storm: the Hacky Sack. The Hacky Sack is a game that many people have picked up on recently, where a group of people stand around in a circle, and kicks a Hacky Sack around, trying to keep it in the air as long as they can while trying to do cool tricks at the same time. All students at Metuchen High School have most likely heard about this phenomenon by now, but how did it all really start out?

In the state of New Jersey, Instagram and TikTok accounts have gone viral and gained a lot of attention from high school kids playing Hacky Sack and trying to show off their skills for the world to see on social media. There are also known rules for the game that have been heard from many different people because of these social media accounts posting about them, such as moves that are deemed illegal. On Instagram, the account “NJ Sack” has gained lots of attention in a short time span, gaining over 10,000 followers within this two-week surge.

Throughout New Jersey, there are competitions where people are sending in their clips to social media accounts for them to post. Brackets have been set up, and towns are trying to compete against each other in a March Madness-style competition. It has also been reported on TikTok that searches for Hacky Sack have gone up 330% just in the last week. Online stores and in-person shipments of these footbags have been getting sold out in no time because of the popularity that this game has picked up.

This is not an uncommon occurrence to see in today’s world, with the younger generation picking up on a new trend, and making it seem like their lifestyle for a while, but this hyperfixation in particular has shown an impressive amount of growth among teens all around the country. What is going to rise into fame next, nobody knows. Right now, though, Hacky Sack is what is on everybody's mind.
