On Saturday afternoon of October 5, 2024, Metuchen High School had not only a big rivalry football game against Highland Park High School but also a celebration during halftime to recognize the 2024 Hall of Fame inductees.
Throughout the first half, the Metuchen Bulldogs scored two touchdowns. The first was scored by senior Jason Woods and the second by junior Justus Leitner. By the end of the first half of the game, the Bulldogs were up 13-0 against the Owls.
The excitement shifted to the ceremony honoring the twelve individuals of the 2024 Hall of Fame class. The “Accomplished Professionals” included John Bruce Dods ‘66, Colonel Ted Lorenz ‘83, Dr. Joseph G. Ouslander ‘69, and Jack Waldman ‘70, all of which are profound contributors to their communities and MHS as a whole with outstanding career accomplishments. The “Humanitarian and Service Contributors” of the 2024 Hall of Fame are Jill Darcy Moore ‘86, Robert Donnan ‘85, and Robert Wetzel ‘78. From creating animal welfare organizations to serving as a Combat Medic and Fire Chief to serving in the US Navy and surviving being a prisoner of war, all helped shape our world to be a better place. Kristen Edmonds ‘05 and Melissa Maikos ‘94 both were inducted for their “Bulldog Spirit” with several athletic accomplishments including MVP awards, MHS records, and All-State honors.
The “Distinguished Faculty” included Kathryn Glutz during her time in administrative roles and incredible coaching roles for two sports. She has the most wins not only as a MHS Field Hockey coach at 133 wins but also as a MHS Basketball coach at 215 wins. The second “Distinguished Faculty” member is Kenneth Graf. He is one of the state’s most respected high school Boys' Soccer coaches, winning five sectional titles and two Middlesex county titles. He has received numerous coaching awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.
The “Lifetime Recognition” award of the 2024 MHS Hall of Class was given to Henry “Bill” Blindow. This award recognizes individuals who have served the MHS community for numerous years and have made a profound impact on the lives of others. Blindow was a beloved faculty member and taught physical education and health for 32 years. He also coached the Metuchen Boys Varsity Basketball team for 15 years (1960-75). He was most known for teaching the fundamentals of work ethics to his students and players.
As the second half of the rivalry football game between Metuchen and Highland Park resumed, Metuchen scored a safety early in the third quarter to bring their lead up to 15-0. By the end of the game, Metuchen scored an amazing two more touchdowns. Junior Cameron Hayes-Durina scored the third one of the game, and junior Josiah Bourne scored the game-ending touchdown. The final score was 29-0, bringing the Bulldog’s record to 4-2. The Bulldog Football team as well as the Varsity Cheerleaders celebrated their big win with a picture all together.
