As the fall season approaches its end, many fall varsity sports have come to a conclusion. The teams this year (Girls’ Tennis, Girls’ Field Hockey, Football, Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ Soccer, Cross Country) have shown exceptional effort and persistence throughout the season. While some sports have games in November, now seems like a good time to share numerical statistics about each of the individual sports to recap the season and display their hard work.
Girl’s Tennis
The Varsity girls’ tennis team has had a total of 18 matches this season, with 15 wins and three losses. They have an average of 3.94 won matches in the team per match and 1.06 losses, showing incredible determination and stamina. They have won 5-0 a total of eight times during their season and have a longest win streak of 12. They are tied with Highland Park for first place in their division and were finalists for the NJSIAA sectionals with New Providence. The tennis team seems to be performing strongly and have won the vast majority of their matches.
Girls’ Field Hockey
The Girl’s Field Hockey team has had a total of 18 games this season, and has won 8 games and lost 10. They have an average of 1.3 goals won per game and 2 lost. These extremely close numbers show persistence against difficult competition and a fluctuating struggle for who comes out on top. They have a longest win streak of two, and they’ve reached the GMC semi-finals. While they didn't have the most wins, their team worked hard and ended their season on a win.
Football
The football team has had a total of 9 games this season, and has won 5 and lost 4. The average amount of points they’ve gotten per game is 23, and the amount that they have lost per game is about 13.8. While the amount of games won is close, the score shows how hard the team is working and the effort they’ve put into their game. Towards the end of the season, their scores significantly improved, showing their progress. They ended their season with a longest win streak of 4, winning their final game.
Girl’s Soccer
The MHS Girl’s soccer team has had 21 games so far this season, which is the most that any fall sport has had. There are scheduled to be even more games during November, and so far, they have won 17 out of the 21 games and have only lost four. The average score is 3.8-1.1, and the girls have a longest win streak of 11. Their scores reflect their hard work this season and their success shows how dedicated they are to their sport. Their next game is a part of the NJSIAA tournament, which will take place on November eighth, and they are currently scheduled to play two more games this season.
Boy’s Soccer
The boy’s soccer team has had 17 games this season. They’ve won 10, lost six, and tied one. They are the only team to have tied even a single game out of all of the varsity sports. On average, they’ve won 2.7 goals per game and lost 1.8. The team started their season with a high ratio of losses to wins, but ended with five consecutive victories, which is also their longest win streak. The team has an upcoming away game on November 4th against Somerset County Vo-Tech High School for the Boys Blue Varsity NJSIAA tournament, which is currently scheduled to be their final game of the season.
Cross Country
This year, the boy’s cross country has won third place in the red division championships and third place in the GMC championships, and the girl’s cross country team has won second place in the red division championships and in the GMC championships, and are 17th overall in the state. Some notable victories include Ella Andersen’s wins as a red division champion and a GMC champion for the girl’s cross country team. Both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams show exceptional effort and success, and their meets will continue throughout November.
The high school varsity teams have shown incredible sportsmanship and perseverance, earning incredible results and success. Some teams, like girl’s soccer and cross country, are continuing to compete and will do so throughout November.
