Winter Sports in January at MHS

The MHS boys basketball team has a winning record in January. Going 5-4, the Bulldogs started the month off with a big 64-25 win over Wardlaw-Hartridge. On January 13th, the team pulled out a close win over a strong North Plainfield team, winning by a four point margin. They have recently lost their last two games to South River and Spotswood but will look to snap the streak on January 24th at home against Timothy Christian at 7:00 PM. The three seniors will be honored on January 26th at 6 PM against Wardlaw Hartridge.


Boys swimming has gone 2-2 during the month of January. They began the month with a 54-31 win over Piscataway. The team headed to the Pirates Invitational Meet on January 6th where the Bulldogs placed 4th. They followed this victory with two consecutive losses against North Brunswick and J.P. Stevens. On January 17th, the three seniors were celebrated in a close 49-45 win against Sayreville. 


The girls basketball team has gone 9-3 thus far in January. The girls started off hot, winning the first eight games of the month including an upset win over J.P. Stevens in a close 43-37 victory. The team has lost three of their last four games including a 64-59 loss in overtime to a strong Spotswood team. The three senior players will be recognized on Monday, January 29th against New Brunswick at 6 PM. The last time these two teams faced off was on January 5th where the Bulldogs won 48-10.


Girls swimming is currently 4-2 with a 2-2 record for January. The Bulldogs kicked off the month by beating Piscataway in a close 49-45 meet. The girls then lost the next two to North Brunswick and J.P. Stevens. On January 17th, the four seniors were honored in a meet against Sayreville. They won 54-40 and are currently 4-1 in the GMC White Division.


Boys wrestling has won four out of seven meets in the last month. Two of the wins included blowout victories over South River and J.P. Stevens with scores of 60-19 and 66-15, respectively. On January 6th, the team participated in the Pioneer Classic; the Bulldogs finished 5th overall out of 11 teams with a final score of 98. The team also had their first ever spotlight match on January 23 and finished with a 35-33 victory over Carteret.


The girls wrestling team has attended two meets in January. On January 7th, the team competed in the Lady Minutemen Classic, walking away with a score of 33 and placing 27th overall. The meet was the largest tournament in the state with 304 participants. On January 15th, the team attended the GMC tournament. The Bulldogs placed 7th overall scoring 61 points.
