When you walk into Metuchen High school, located on the left, in front of the auditorium, is a collection of plaques which represents the members of the Metuchen High School Hall of Fame. According to the Metuchen High School website,“The Metuchen High School Hall of Fame was created to honor alumni, employees, and major contributors who have distinguished themselves by their achievements in scholarship, athletics, career, community service, and society as whole.” The hall of fame, which was started in 2016, currently has 33 inductees. There is a diverse range of inductees from a famous magician, David Copperfield from the class of 1974 to current Metuchen Police Chief, Arthur Flaherty, class of 1985.

In order to be inducted to the hall of fame a nomination must be submitted by a member of the public; this could be done by alumni, staff, former staff,or members of the community. After the nomination period closes, the nominations are then reviewed by the hall of fame committee. According to MHS Principal Mr. Porowski, the committee is made up of,“influential members of the school community, alumni, current administrators, and both current and retired staff members.” The class of 2024 will be announced at the beginning of July with the induction ceremony taking place in the fall of 2024.

According to Mr. Porowski,“The Metuchen High School Hall of Fame was created to honor alumni, employees, and major contributors who have distinguished themselves by their achievements in scholarship, athletics, career, community service, and/or society as a whole. The honor of being elected to the MHS Hall of Fame will be afforded to those who, through their actions, have contributed to the established vision of the Metuchen School District. The selected Hall of Fame honorees will continue to serve as positive role models providing inspiration, hope, support, and relevance to our community.”

With so many exceptional alumni to choose from, it is nice that there is a way to recognize them and their achievements for years to come.
