This year, the Boys Cross Country team had a great season.
The team started off strong with a win at the Xavier Invitational, where the entire varsity team ran times under 19 minutes, marking the beginning of a great season to come.
At the Red Division Championship, the team finished second with a team average of 17:19. It kept their momentum going at the GMCs, finishing second again with a team average of 17:07. Additionally, Eric Schleif ran a time of 15:56, placing second overall and earning the school record.
At the Sectionals, the team won their third straight sectional title, the 12th in school history. Every Metuchen runner also finished in the top 25, securing the win further. At the Groups race, the team successfully defended last year’s title and won their second Group title in a row, the seventh in school history.
The team also qualified for the Meet of Champions, the final state meet of the season. Everyone ran their hardest, and the race ended up being a solid close to the championship part of the season. From there, the team ran one final meet at the Nike Cross Regionals, bringing the cross-country season to a close.
Eric Schleif achieved All GMC honors, and Brady Allen, Kai Englert, Art Krumins, and Asher Greenbaum achieved Red Division Honors. Coach Dave Allen was also awarded Coach of the Year for GMC and Red Division.
Overall, the season was a very solid one, with lots to come. This year, the team did a great job always running their hardest and always stepping up for their teammates when needed.
Thank you to coaches David Allen and Sydney Rudin, as well as team captains Eric Schleif and Brady Allen, for leading the team through a great season.
