In the Atlantic Corridor, where Metuchen (along with general NJ) is located, November is typically known for experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, with average readings showing low 40s and high to mid-30s. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, rain, sunshine, and especially cold weather will prevail this coming November. The almanac also states that there is a chance of snow in the upper northern regions. However, a resident of Metuchen should expect to see rain and mild temperatures, not snow, at least until midway through December. Nearing the end of November, the days will shift from mild to cold as we sleigh into December. As stated once more by the Old Farmer’s Almanac, there is an official name for each full moon of the month. November’s official moon is known as the Full Beaver Moon. As Astronomy Magazine has predicted, Wednesday, November 5th, will be the determined date of the full moon. However, this isn’t your standard full moon - this is a supermoon. Supermoons are a special type of phenomena that occur when a full moon coincides with itself in orbit around Earth when it’s closest to or near its perigee. Supermoons are usually the biggest and brightest moons that occur all year. November’s supermoon is expected to have a golden tint, so it might be hard to miss! Be sure to take advantage of the sight and grab a photo. It’s too soon to forecast snow or the upcoming temperatures of December, but be sure to check in again if you’re interested, or just don’t know what to wear.
FAQS:
What’s a perigee?
A perigee is a point in the moon’s orbit at which it is closest to the Earth, sometimes causing a supermoon. However, there isn’t a supermoon every time the Moon reaches this point because of the need for the Moon’s phase to be full.
What do I wear?
I would recommend putting the shorts away and pivoting to a warmer and more sensible wardrobe for these upcoming winter months. Wear sweaters, hoodies, the occasional t-shirt (if you must), sweats, et cetera.
