It has been said by those who came before us that absolute power corrupts absolutely. A simple concept, yes? One, however, that the gods cannot seem to grasp. Asta's boredom, as it always seems to, leads to humanity's eventual downfall. As it has been the time before, and the time before that. The story seems to repeat itself time and time again. Nonetheless, I, your humble narrator, will tell it again.

Asta’s hold on the world’s magic was tight. All she had to do was simply let go. If not for the little semblance of humanity they had left, the world would have gone up in flames. And to be frank, it nearly did. People began to pick up their abilities far too quickly. Armies of magic users erupted into pure chaos. The world teetered back and forth, constantly at the brink of war over some new development in this wild magic it had come to be. Superstitious people believed that the Stark twins would one day return, something that seemed impossible.

They, however, in a way, were right.

History repeats itself, often in different lenses. All-out war threatened the sanctity of the Treaty of the Empyrean Law. Divisions of opinion once again turned the people against one another. Humanity was about to suffer a war from which they would never recover. But as things go every time, the gods intervene.

Pax sat and watched centuries' worth of work unfold within a matter of months due to Asta’s meddling. Years had passed, and he had dealt with her antics for far too long. With some planning, Pax, alongside the four other minor gods, came to a conclusion. Asta had to be stopped now. If she weren’t brought under control, the world would collapse completely. They would catch her by surprise, which wouldn’t be too difficult considering the distraction at hand. Finding a way to actually contain her was the real problem.

Well, the opportunity presented itself amidst the chaos of the teetering world. Humans had begun to spread the word of Asta’s doings. They blamed her for all the madness. Finally, everything seemed to make sense. As we all know, humans are quick to act when someone is to blame. Altars were swept empty, her basins ran dry, and support began to wane. Although a lone few held their beliefs, both Asta’s influence and therefore her power were fading.

The vines of magic that had choked society started to retract. Disputes came to a halt and eventually reached a full resolution. The gods hadn’t even had to do much; the people did it for them. Although they are often the start of conflict, humanity is never seen as the problem-solver. However, it seems they have evolved. As they continue to do so, the world will continue to fluctuate. One step forward, two steps back.

History is bound to repeat itself. Asta is sure to return, stronger and more malicious than ever. And when that time comes, I, your humble narrator, will be here to tell it again.
