Snow Angels & Resolutions

There’s something to be said about how snow angels are like the new year

When you wipe away that old layer of slush to create something fresh and beautiful

Of course, it melts quickly

And sooner, those pristine wings are trampled

And muddied

And people don’t even realize there was anything at all

Next time it snows you make an icy Michelangelo

It takes so long that by the time you finish

You’ve got frostbite on your fingers and toes

And in a few hours the angel fades away

And years from now you stop making them

Because you’re not a kid anymore

Whenever it snows you stay inside

Other people make lots of snow angels

Some of them turn out better than yours ever did

Some of them are terrible

But you’ve given up trying for a fresh start

And soon you’ve forgotten about them completely

The snow gets shoveled away

Before there is even a chance

For something beautiful
