As a member of the house band and the jazz ensemble at Metuchen High School, Aiden Baginski has a passion for music. Although Aiden started their involvement in the music program recently, they explain that “music is a positive outlet” for them. The senior joined the house band two years ago and loved every minute of it. Baginski is not only the lead vocalist for this group, but they also organize meetings to discuss future songs and performances.
When deciding on a song to play, the senior explains each person brings their own ideas to the table. Then, as a group, they decide on a song list to practice. The house band performs occasionally during lunch periods, as well as special occasions and an end-of-year show. Aiden enjoys many aspects of the band, including the incredible group of people and performing in front of their peers.
One piece of advice that the senior can offer to the underclassmen is to stick with yourself and be who you are. Aiden explains that this is something that they had to learn during high school, and they hope that the underclassmen can learn it as well.
Along with the house band, the senior plays as a part of the Jazz Ensemble at Metuchen High School. Aiden began playing the electric bass guitar after being encouraged to by Mr. Messenger. After agreeing to be a part of the Jazz Ensemble, Aiden “fell in love with the instrument.” Baginski also enjoys being a part of the MHS Footlighters program. Prior to making their stage debut, the senior participated in the crew, helping the rest of the cast and crew to put on a fantastic performance. They made their stage debut as Megan Jones in the fall play Puffs.
Aiden first began to perform on stage because of their sister, who was in the theatre program. One of Aiden’s favorite classes was the writer’s workshop with Mr. Mazza. The senior was first encouraged to write by their mom, then they fell in love with writing. They mainly focus on writing poetry about mental health and society. Baginski enjoys putting their fantasies into writing through the imagery of beauty, poetry, and love stories. Through their writing, Aiden has the ability to be both interpretive and flexible.
When asked about an inspiration, Baginski named two people: their sister and Mr. Levy. They chose both of these people because they are genuinely positive and welcoming people. The senior’s favorite memory from Metuchen High School is winning the Marching Band state championships. To win, the band must perform a show and compete against other teams. The scoring is based on a rubric, so those who score the highest, win the state championships.
The senior explains that they will miss “getting to see the same people every day.” One piece of advice that the senior can offer to the underclassmen is to stick with yourself and be who you are. Aiden explains that this is something that they had to learn during high school, and they hope that the underclassmen can learn it as well. We wish Aiden luck in all of their future endeavors!
