Paradise, Lost: A Sonnet

A tender touch tethers my heart to yours
A love confined to burn like secret fire
A gentle kiss that’s kept behind closed doors
The flame within now burns with hot desire
Your face, so smooth, awash in candlelight
Forbidden dance cursed to waltz alone
Every new day apart, as dark as night
Only in my whispers are you my own
In my wild dreams we run right through the rain
Past the storm that keeps us chained to this town
In my wild dreams we're running to the train
We toss the match and watch it all burn down
But here we linger with lies and shadows
Below the waves, sunk among the shallows
