The Sunset

Mesmerizing in all its radiance

Brilliant shining lights peeking out and illuminating every shadow it can find

As I gaze into its overwhelming light I cannot help but wish to look away

To feel unworthy

What have I done to deserve to look upon such a beautiful figure

However my eyes seem to be dragged back to it again and again

Capturing my gaze at every half-hearted attempt to avert my eyes

The stars are wonderful

Blooming in the night and providing a spectacle for all to see

But after witnessing the setting sun

The stars don’t seem to shine as brightly as before

Something one could appreciate, but not be obsessed with

The captivating light of the setting sun on the other hand

I don’t wish to ever look away again

Maybe one day the moon will hold the sun's place

An anchor to my being

Maybe one day the sun’s light will begin to dull and the illusion will fade away

But, for now…

It will continue to be my one and only

And its radiance will catch my eye no matter where it may be
